5 Extension Maintenance Tips You Need To Keep Your Hair and Scalp Healthy
When it comes to hair extensions, care is more than a routine—it's the secret to keeping your hair (and scalp) happy and healthy. These five simple tips will ensure your extensions stay flawless while protecting the foundation they’re attached to: your natural hair.
1. Go to Bed with Dry Hair
I get it—you’re exhausted and ready to collapse into bed. But hear me out, sleeping on damp or wet extensions can cause scalp irritation, tangling, and even breakage.
2. Sleep on Silk or Satin
Your pillowcase matters more than you think! Silk or satin pillowcases (or bonnets) reduce friction, which minimizes frizz and tangling. Wake up to hair that’s ready for the day.
3. Brush, Brush, Brush
Tangling is the arch nemesis of extensions. To keep it at bay, brush your hair morning and night. For those with multiple rows, separate them gently and ensure you brush between layers.
Bonus: A consistent brushing routine keeps your scalp stimulated and extensions smooth.
4. Hydrate with a Hair Mask
Your extensions crave moisture just like your natural hair. Use a hydrating mask to keep them soft and shiny, but steer clear of protein-heavy treatments—they can be too harsh for processed extensions.
5. Book Maintenance Appointments in Advance
Keeping your extensions in tip-top shape means sticking to a maintenance schedule. Planning ahead avoids gaps that could compromise your look and scalp health. To make it easy, I send my clients a reminder email two weeks before you are due if you haven’t booked yet to ensure we're always on track.
