I can’t tell you, because everyone is different.
But here are some signs it may be time to add another wash day to your week:
Oily, itchy scalp – If your scalp feels greasy, flaky, or irritated, it’s asking for a refresh. A clean scalp is the foundation for healthy growth and happy hair.
Product use – If you’ve found yourself using more product than usual (hello, extra dry shampoo or hairspray to push it one more day), that buildup can weigh your hair down and keep your scalp from breathing.
Sweat – Whether it’s from a workout or just surviving humidity, sweat mixes with oil and creates buildup that’s best washed away before it starts to clog your follicles.
Shampoo twice – The first shampoo loosens up dirt and oil, and the second gives you that satisfying, squeaky-clean wash.
Conditioner is for your ends – Your ends are the oldest, driest part of your hair. Give them the moisture they deserve and keep it away from your scalp to avoid the dreaded oil slick.
Weekly clarifying shampoo – Think of this as your deep clean. It clears away product buildup, hard water minerals, and leftover dry shampoo so your regular wash can really do its job.
There’s no universal “right” schedule—whether you’re an every-day, every-other-day, or once-a-week washer, what matters most is listening to your scalp and giving it the clean, healthy foundation it needs.
